UNDERSTANDING CATALOGUE RECORDS

What is the purpose of a catalogue record? Where do all the bits in a catalogue record come from, what is their purpose and what do they mean? How does my library system use the records? How can I ensure that the records are useful for my students and staff?

This workshop will cover: data elements in a record, subject headings, classification and call numbers, and authority records.

This workshop is most suited to library staff who have a responsibility for managing library cataloguing records understand more about the nature of the data being imported.

Please bring your SCIS username & password, if you have it. Also, if you have online access to your library system’s cataloguing module, that would be useful.

The School Library association of Victoria respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Owners of country throughout Victoria and pay respect to the ongoing living cultures of First Peoples.
