Special Guests
Lucinda Gifford is the author and illustrator of many well-loved children’s books. Many years ago, Lucinda left her fishing village in Scotland’s far north to study architecture in the big city, and quickly realised she preferred sketching buildings to designing them. She finally shared some of her best sketches 25 years later – at the 2014 SCBWI Illustrator Showcase in Sydney. Since then, she has illustrated 30 books, six of which she has also written. Her illustrations appear in a range of Australian picture books and junior and middle grade fiction, including Fairytales for Feisty Girls by Susannah McFarlane and, most recently, Emily Rodda’s Monty’s Island series. Lucinda lives in Melbourne and hopes to write and draw for the rest of her life.
Felice Arena is one of Australia’s best-loved children’s writers. He is the author and creator of many popular and award-winning children’s books for all ages, including the acclaimed historical adventure adventures The Boy and the Spy, Fearless Frederic and The Great Escape, the bestselling Specky Magee books and the popular Andy Roid and Sporty Kids series.
The Besties series is illustrated by Australian illustrator Tom Jellett. Tom has been an editorial illustrator for News Limited, working on The Australian, The Weekend Australian and The Daily Telegraph and his work has appeared in the South China Morning Post, The Week and the Medical Observer. His picture books with Justine Clarke and Arthur Baysting, The Gobbledygook is Eating a Book and The Gobbledygook and the Scribbledynoodle have been Australian bestsellers. His other acclaimed picture books include Why I Love Footy and Why I Love Summer with Michael Wagner, and Grandpa's Big Adventure, written by Paul Newman.
