We invite members to join the SLAV About Reading, Books and Literacy series.

About Reading, Books and Literacy series will be online for 8 sessions throughout the year. Register to recieve the reminders and the Teams link to the series.

Time: 4:30 to 5:30 PM
Format: Online
Open to: All SLAV Members
Cost: Free

Each session will focus on a different aspect about reading, books or literacy.

Term 1

Wed Feb 18 - About Reading - promotion strategies – orientation to collections, creating displays, promoting genres, incentives, reading record programs etc

Guest panel: Lauren Kyte, John Ward award winner 2025; Karen Malbon, Melbourne Girl's Grammar School; Helen Farch, Forest Hill College.

Thursday March 19 - About Books – What’s new and soon to be published? Special guest authors Suzy Zail and Ingrid Laguna to speak about their new books.

Term 2

Tuesday May 5 - About Literacy - Engaging reluctant readers and resourcing for reading difficulties

Wednesday June 10 - About Reading – Sustaining readers through book series

Term 3

Wednesday July 22 - About Books - Book week displays and activities to engage

Tuesday September 8 - About Literacy - Engaging readers through graphic novels and manga

Term 4 

Thursday October 22 - About Reading – Book clubs, shared reading, literature festivals and author visits

Tuesday December 1 - About Books – Sharing suggestions for holiday reading

We document all book suggestions and share them through both the SLAV and  Shelftalkers websites, making it easy for members to discover new reads. A Padlet will also enable resource sharing.

Participants can encourage students to engage with our reading community through the SLAV Shelftalkers platform, creating an ongoing conversation about books and resources beyond our meeting times.
